Season II Bantamweight Tournament Championship James “The Phenom” Gray vs. Daniel Virginio | XFCi 10

James Gray vs Daniel Virginio

Grand Rapids, MI – The Season II Bantamweight Tournament began on September 27th, 2014 at XFCi 6 in Araraquara. Eight selected fighters embarked in the Tournament’s opening round that night with four fighters earning victories. With the Tournament Semifinal field set, XFCi 9 in São Paulo produced two victorious warriors who are now set to meet for the Bantamweight Season II Tournament Championship. James “The Phenom” Gray and Daniel Virginio are those two fighters, both of which are undefeated in the Season II Tournament and their careers. XFCi 10 will see one of them walk away with Tournament Gold and another with their first loss as a professional.

USA’s James “The Phenom” Gray will fight from the blue corner at XFCi 10, with a perfect 4-0 professional record. Earning swift victories in both of his Tournament fights thus far has made Gray a must watch fighter by fans and fighters alike. The lone American remaining in the Tournament will represent the U.S. along with his home State of Michigan and his team Scorpion Fighting System in the Tournament Championship. With two submission victories, the first a Triangle Choke at 1:25 of round 1 in the Quarterfinals, and the second a Rear-Naked Choke at 0:54 of round 1 in the Semifinals has proven “The Phenom” is not one to waste time or opportunity. As the stage sets for a war between two unbeaten’s, James Gray will have to face his toughest opponent yet to remain perfect.

In the red corner will be 3-0 Daniel Virginio Da Silva. The Nova Uniao Kimura team member is a native of Natal, RN Brazil and has made quick work of his first two tournament appearances as well. Earning two quick victories in the tournament’s opening rounds, Virginio submitted his Quarterfinal opponent at 3:22 of round 1 by Guillotine Choke and TKO’d his Semifinal opponent by punches in the closing seconds of round 1. Showcased within his victories, Daniel has been able to display his expert Jiu-Jitsu skills along with explosive power in both his kicks and punches. Only one bout is left in the Season II Tournament and now Daniel Virginio Da Silva must take on a fellow undefeated fighter to earn Tournament Gold at XFCi 10.

XFC Matchmaker, Eduardo Duarte had this to say about the bantamweight tournament finale. “This is a finale any fight fan will be intrigued to see. Two unbeaten rising stars, each with a massive skill set, that no one in the tournament bracket could withstand past the first round.  Virginio and Gray have the utmost respect for one another, but after the heXagon doors lock they’ll only re-open with one undefeated fighter; that person being crowned as our Season II Bantamweight Tournament Champion and advancing into the Superfight Series. It’s USA vs Brasil for the finale on July 4th! Don’t miss it.”
