Women’s Flyweight Poliana Botelho One Win From Becoming Season II Tournament Champion | XFC Spotlight

Grand Rapids, MI | Feb. 16th, 2015 – On March 14th inside the São Paulo Futebol Clube, the Season II Women’s Flyweight Tournament Finale will identify a new champion. The finalists are a pair of Brazilian born fighters, who both made their XFC debuts on September 27th 2014. Antonia “Marretinha” Silvaneide will represent the blue corner, while the red corner will be taken by Poliana Botelho.  With a mutual goal of tournament gold in their sights, the women now prepare for war inside the HeXagon.

The last time Poliana Botelho fought inside the HeXagon was at XFCi 6. In her inaugural fight with XFC she was paired against Mexican born fighter Karina Rodriguez in the Season II Tournament Quarterfinals. The opening round gave each fighter an opportunity to explore their challenger and take in the energy of the arena. Poliana established a strong striking distance with her opponent in round 2, as a consequence a fire sparked within her. On the 2:05 minute mark of the round she threw Rodriguez to the canvas with a solid body slam which affected Karina for the remainder of the bout. From that moment Botelho dominated the fight and at 2:15 of round 3 she delivered a gut wrenching spinning heel kick to KO her opponent and declare that indeed flyweights can carry annihilating KO power.

At XFCi 8,  the Tournament Semifinals, Botelho was set to face-off against Taila Santos, however Santos failed to make weight, awarding Botelho advancement into the finale.  Now on March 14th the 26 year old, Rio de Janeiro native, Botelho will bring her exceptionally fit 5’8” frame back into the HeXagon for her chance at capturing tournament gold. It is expected the Nova Uniao representative will apply her well-timed striking in the bout, while forcing her opponent to a distance with her threatening reach. Accordingly with the approach of March 14th, the the shine of gold in the eyes of Botelho grows brighter.
